Barnegat NJ Woman Killed in Fatal Hit-and-Run Accident
Police in Barnegat NJ arrested a local woman who is accused of causing a fatal hit-and-run accident on a township road.
The tragic incident occurred just before 8:00 a.m. The victim was walking along Ridgeway Street, near Bayview Boulevard, when the suspect allegedly turned the corner sharply and crashed into her.
Witnesses later told law enforcement that the vehicle was a tan Chevrolet Silverado truck.
The victim was a 61-year-old woman from Barnegat, New Jersey. Emergency medical responders tried valiantly to save her life, but she was pronounced dead at the scene of the truck accident.
The Barnegat Police Department investigated the fatal car accident, with detectives talking to witnesses and securing surveillance footage from surrounding streets. Law enforcement eventually identified the suspect as the person who was probably behind the wheel of the car involved in the auto accident.
The suspect, a 27-year-old woman who resides in Barnegat NJ, was later apprehended at a home located on Center Street. Barnegat police officers, Ocean County Sheriff’s officers, and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office detectives worked together on the investigation and subsequent arrest of the suspect.
The suspect has been charged with multiple crimes in connection with the fatal car crash, including leaving the scene of an accident.
After being placed under arrest and processed in the case, the suspect was remanded to the Ocean County Jail. Her bail amount was initially set at $150,000, with no 10-percent cash option available for posting bail and securing her release from police custody.
